Grounding with a Salt Doll

Gail Wood

Staying grounded and being grounded in the heart of Mother Earth is very important in the practice of Witchcraft and one of the important things I have learned and passed on to my students. I have developed a variety of ways to ground quickly and easily. It’s especially important in times of stress when doing spellwork or living our lives. Let’s face it: it’s important all the time!

One year, while attending a festival, I found a vendor selling little dolls that were containers of salt. The seller told me they were for grounding. The doll fits in the palm of my hand and she has long yarn hair. Holding it and stroking her hair is very comforting, and the salt purifies our pains, sorrows, and worries as she gives us a new connection to the Goddess. I have used my little salt doll in my own magic, and my circle has come to view her as a dear companion.

After some web-based research, I found that there wasn’t anything written on this custom, and so we make it our own in the tradition of making meaning and in our own becoming.
